The Modernity Series
Galactic Historian Alethia Phos aboard the Grande Viator, 2080 AD Earth Time, 1.000.020 Galactic Time
Allow me if you will, dear reader, to take you on a journey to a special place, a time period that emerged triumphantly from the illustrious history of Man, and yet was seemingly devoid of the spiritual nourishment that propelled Mankind to great heights of achievement and thought. I speak of the “Modern World” time period in the country that was called “The United States of America”. This period was marked by industrial wonders and an acceleration of change that still baffles many of us today, given how slowly Mankind seemed to progress throughout the centuries previous.
I’m not the first galactic historian to dive into this interesting and confounding time period. My objective is to render from the data collected a mythos of sorts for the Modern World time period, very much in the style of the Ancient Greeks, whose myths were still quite alive in their own way towards the end of it all. One could say those myths outlived their creators due to the fact that the myths themselves embodied such Universal themes that even we, the Pleiadians, could find some kindred spirit within those colorful stories.
The most challenging part of creating a mythology for the time period of roughly 1913-2036 in the USA was keeping up with the rapid developments. This neck-breaking speed of change may have been the very thing that caused so much strife and decay among the humans, similar to giving a young inexperienced Pleiadian a photon knife and telling them to go play a game with their friends. Major events and the subsequent social mutations happened so quickly that only those “in the know” could plan accordingly, while the vast majority of humans were left standing subjectively still as the world moved along right underneath their very feet.
Thus the clash truly occurred here - the external world in which they lived, and the internal world within themselves. For centuries, humans (as well as our species and many others in the galaxy) interacted with the natural world provided by the planet. This is how they learned about themselves and their unique purpose on the planet during those times. This is a quite natural and a universal experience, as the planet itself has its own type of consciousness that speaks through the natural world blooming from it’s elemental composition. The home planet was the first and most important teacher for the humans (as it is for all species).
We see this in the ancient myths themselves; from the Norse pantheon to the Incans, to remote tribes in Africa and Australia. The humans crafted mythology in response to the natural world around them, and through these various belief systems, they were able to make better sense of the oftentimes confusing and harsh environment in which they lived. Mythology also arose in response to their interactions with one another and the various dramas, comedies, and tragedies that inevitably make up the human experience (we have found that almost all species in our galaxy have their own myths that arose for very similar reasons).
It can be understood now that as their external world went through these great changes, something went awry. There are many factors we historians have considered here. Perhaps they turned their backs on their first teachers in order to accommodate the rapid growth. The planet and its resources became things to control and destroy instead of nurturing and co-evolving alongside. Maybe instead of seeking the God or gods who guided them through the worst of times, they chose to follow the various cults of personality within their own tribes, those humans who rode these waves of great change to the very top of the pecking order.
For we Pleidians, one of our theories of what may have went wrong is this: Instead of sitting together under a night sky emblazoned with the splendor and awe of the Universe, wondering and speculating and using their minds, they slowly began to sit in their houses and look into something they called televisions, allowing their minds to fall into a passive vegetative state, into which any and all influences could weasel their way. They spent many of their nights like this, and from our own experiences and historical data of the inhabitants of the galaxy, this confuses us to no end. Then again, looking at the history of the humans before the invention of the television, they seemed to know what to do with their nights, as it was the natural way of things for centuries. Communities tightly knit, spending time by the central fire, eating, drinking, laughing, singing, playing, acting, communicating with one another face-to-face. It deeply troubles us to think of how swiftly that all changed for them, and the implications therein.
Over time, the television evolved into other machines designed to snake away the attention of the humans. If they had only been taught somehow that these screens were only meant to be tools, perhaps things may have gone differently. Instead, the machines themselves became weapons of control over their minds. Gone were the Rembrandts, the Da Vincis, the Beethovens, the geniuses of their species. For the humans, true genius needed time and attention to cultivate, along with a little something they called “boredom”. We are still trying to figure out what that word fully meant to them, because for us it would mean something like “free space in the mind to imagine, contemplate, and analyze life”.
Crafting heroes for this mythology series was also challenging. In the ancient myths, the heroes arose from strife, from necessity, from the interactions of the humans with the natural world around them. Once they stopped interacting with the natural world en masse, we surmise that they began to believe that there seemed to be no need for heroes or gods anymore. Convenience replaced strife and necessity. Mankind seemed to accept that it was taking care of itself now, suddenly its own “hero”, forging its own destiny, in total disregard of the fact that Man was never able to led Itself successfully for very long, given the available historical data.
Creating the villains for this series, on the other hand, has been quite easy. Enjoyable even, as the array of data available from the Modern world period opens up a veritable treasure chest of nasty potential characters. I would say this point speaks loudly for itself. In their time of decay, the external world of man in which they focused all their attention was full of more monster than champion.
Which begs the question; what Power was responsible for such a grand feat? To divert the attention of the humans away from the pristine and law-abiding natural world from which they emerged and learned so much, and to re-focus that attention on a newly-crafted and identifiably-flawed man-made world?
We Pleiadians have some idea of the answer to this, and perhaps the work I do here can assist others in ensuring that we do not fall victim to ourselves as the humans once did. This too is a common theme in the Universe; Whether you are Man, Pleiadian, Sirian, or any being in our particular free-will galaxy, you will have choices…and consequences.
I hope in creating this series of stories, it may also help keep the humans from creating the same mistakes in their future timelines. Much of the time period I am writing about will need to be cleansed from their memories. All they will have are their own historical tomes (of which fallacies and truth mingle in a rather intriguing interplay) to learn from. The planet itself maintains its own records of all historical events and all timelines in a large crystal in the center of the Earth, but only a species with the proper knowledge and technical know-how can access this vital data.
The causal bodies of the surviving colony are aboard our ship now in a state of light suspension, the final numbers somewhere roughly in the 12,000 range. They are all undergoing the deep healing protocols necessary after the trauma of the final events on their planet. Once the healing is complete, they will undergo a very similar process to their entrance upon the planet in the past. In short, they will need to start over yet again.
Alethias note: I have been informed by our Chief of Communications that the language and cadence in my writing in these stories may be a bit…dry. In my defense, galactic historians are not known for their artistic license. I will be acquiring the assistance of one of our top language artists onboard to help “liven up” our stories. His favorite study of planet earth was the English language and its incredible ability to translate the most complex symbols, thoughts, and emotions from the mind into the word itself. I believe that fact overrides entertainment always, especially in this case, so some stories will be my own, and my assistant will do his part to broaden the linguistic palate, as it were. His name is Milo Dunamis.
